Speedway Children’s Charities, Sonoma Chapter, has been a most valuable partner in the success we have had at COTS (Committee on the Shelterless) in helping to rebuild the lives of children and families traumatized by the impact of homelessness. Speedway’s on-going support of our Family Transitional Housing program has been enabled us to achieve the results for which COTS has received national recognition. For example, we typically enable 75% of our families to get back into stable housing of their own at completion of their time with us. This is an amazing accomplishment in the face of daunting challenges many of these families face.

For the past 25 years COTS has provided basic support for these families (food, clothing, medical care and safe shelter) in our Family Transitional Housing program at the Mary Isaak Center in Petaluma. But what distinguishes our work is a continuum of care and a ‘whole person’ approach which we provide for each child and adult. This enables us to address prior trauma, provide skills building support, and focus parents on the healthy development and dreams of their children as their primary goal.

In this time of a challenged economy and declining government support for the safety net, we are most grateful to know that people in our community care so much about those less fortunate and support groups like Speedway Charities and COTS.
