Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay has been changing the way children grow up in the North Bay Counties of Sonoma, Marin, Napa, and Solano for over 40 years.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has a lasting positive impact on the lives of children and the community by screening, matching, training, and supporting volunteer mentors, who provide opportunities and share their lives with vulnerable kids who are now far more likely to succeed. Through its Hermanos Mayores Hermanas Mayores program specifically, BBBS connects to and truly serves Latino families in our community by providing a bilingual and bicultural focus on the needs of Latino and Latina youth and Spanish-speaking families.

Generous funding from Speedway Children's Charities has made it possible to hire a bilingual counselor for this program who is completely devoted to the agency's Spanish-speaking families and their mentors during all stages of the matching process. This funding helps us to prevent or reduce barriers to accessibility and participation due to language or cultural differences and financial limitations that exist for the youth BBBS serves who are part of the Latino and Spanish-speaking communities.

"Because of Speedway Children's Charities financial support, we were able to outreach to many more Latino and Latina young people than ever before and have matched them with mentors who help them grow both socially and academically," says BBBS Program Director Lauren Grayman.
