SONOMA, Calif. (May 9, 2008) - The 16th annual Vintage Race Car Festival returns to the Sonoma Plaza on Saturday, May 31, to benefit youth groups in Sonoma County through Speedway Children's Charities, the charitable arm of Infineon Raceway. Locals and race fans alike will enjoy samplings from more than 20 Sonoma Valley purveyors.

While enjoying the local delicacies, attendees can enjoy a stroll around the Sonoma Plaza and an up-close look at more than 30 vintage race cars from the Wine Country Classic Historic Car Races, which will be held at Infineon Raceway, May 31-June 1.

The evening will feature a sampling from a variety of local restaurants, including the Basque Boulangerie Café, Blazing Saddles BBQ, Garden Court Café, Maya Restaurant, The Red Grape, Rin's Thai Restaurant, Swiss Hotel and Tuscan Cowgirl Desserts.

More than 12 local wineries, including Arrowood Vineyards and Winery, Blackstone Winery, B.R. Cohn Winery, Chandelle Winery, Eric Ross Winery, Gloria Ferrer Caves and Vineyards, Larson Family Winery, Landmark Vineyards and Winery, Robledo Family Winery, Roche Estate Winery, VJB Vineyards and Westwood Winery will complement the food with tastings.

The event will begin with a parade of 30 vintage race cars departing under a full CHP escort from Infineon Raceway at approximately 5 p.m. The parade of cars will motor along Highways 121 and 12, before reaching the scenic Sonoma Square and taking a ceremonial lap around the square. They will then be parked around the horseshoe and on display for the public. You can even vote for your favorite car in two different contests.

"Infineon has such a long history of support for Sonoma Valley schools, and we are so grateful to be part of this exciting event," said Fran Meininger, executive director of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation, one of the beneficiaries of the event. "The money will be used to support art programs, technology classes and volunteers in classrooms."

The Vintage Race Car Festival will run from 5:30-8 p.m. and tickets are $30 in advance ($35 at the event). For tickets, please contact Denise Silver at (707) 933-3950 or
